Cornerstone Family Chiropractic Educates on Chiropractic Effectiveness
The design of the human body is astonishing. The human body was created to be a self-regulating and self-healing mechanism. The central nervous system is responsible for these systems to work cohesively and with proper function. The role of the spinal column is to protect the vital connection between the nervous system and the body. Therefore, an optimal functioning spine and nervous system equals optimal health.
Evidenced-Based Research Enhances the Advancement of Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic has consistently grown in practitioners as well as individuals seeking alternative healing methods to their ailments. Today, in the United States, Chiropractic has become the largest complementary and alternative medicine profession. Over the past decade, more evidenced-based research has become available as pertaining to this medical practice. In the early 1990’s evidenced-based research performed on the practice of “hands on” therapy and chiropractic manipulative therapy for musculoskeletal conditions with a focus on lower back pain.
Research has continued by involving other fields as well, such as with orthopedic assessments of the spine, legs and arms, exercise therapy and the biomechanics of the adult spine. More and more chiropractors are taking on this approach of incorporating evidenced-based research into their practices as well as by collecting their own data through measurable outcomes with their patients.
An Alternative Health Option with Many Research-Proven Benefits
With the use of evidenced-based research, chiropractic care has shown to be very beneficial in more areas than treatment for a pinched nerve in the back, a lower back adjustment, upper back pain, chronic back pain relief, and for neck pain, which are all ailments found in the posterior of the body. Research has now proven much more for the back adjustment benefits.
Questions often get asked concerning chiropractic care such as:
Is chiropractic safe?
Is chiropractic effective?
Is going to a chiropractor good?
According to the American Chiropractic Association, research studies have proven that chiropractors are clinically effective, safe and affordable.
Here are some findings from studies to share:
“A higher proportion of chiropractic patients (56 percent vs. 13 percent) reported that their low-back pain was better or much better, whereas nearly one-third of medical patients reported their low-back pain was worse or much worse.”
Nyiendo et al (2000), Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics
“The results of a clinical trial showed that chiropractic care combined with usual medical care for low back pain provides greater pain relief and a greater reduction in disability than medical care alone. The study, which featured 750 active-duty members of the military, is one of the largest comparative effectiveness trials between usual medical care and chiropractic care ever conducted.
Goertz et al. (2018) JAMA Open Network
“Older Medicare patients with chronic low back pain and other medical problems who received spinal manipulation from a chiropractic physician had lower costs of care and shorter episodes of back pain than patients in other treatment groups. Patients who received a combination of chiropractic and medical care had the next lowest Medicare costs, and patients who received medical care only incurred the highest costs.
Weeks et al (2016), Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics
